Artist Statement
Katie Kressler is a recent graduate from The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art's Post-Baccalaureate graduate program. She was primarily concentrating on painting but also exploring mixed media and sculpture. Currently, she is learning how to farm organically and homestead so that she can eventually build her own home and studio.Knowledge of how our food is grown and how to live solely off the land is inspiration for many of Katie's paintings. She attended Elizabethtown College in the spring of 2006 and graduated with a B.A in Fine Art and a minor in Business Administration.
Through Katie's explorations she has found many exciting paths for her art to go. Katie has gone from painting folklorist portraits to examining her spiritual self and what it means to be an artist in the world today. She paints more from her experiences and emotions than the reality of the subject matter.Katie believes that it is more important to paint first and contemplate after. Her work is best classified as primitive expressionism because of the raw emotions that Katie lays out on her canvases. Katie is most inspired by artists such as The Cobra Movement, Mama Anderson, Gideon Bak and Jean Michel Basquiat.**
